Jazz & Tap Classes

Where Rhythm, Energy, and Expression Come Together

Jazz and tap are distinct styles that develop musicality, coordination, and performance. Together, they teach dancers precise, energetic movement in response to rhythm and music.

Tap dance focuses on creating sound through movement, using metal taps on the soles of the shoes to develop timing, control, and rhythmic accuracy. Jazz dance brings expression and energy into movement, incorporating turns, jumps, flexibility, and performance-based technique.

At Forever Dance, our jazz and tap dance classes are taught in a calm, encouraging setting, where certified instructors guide dancers as they build technique, musical understanding, and confidence at a steady pace.

Prerequisites for Jazz & Tap Classes

There are no prerequisites for enrolling in Tap classes.

To support safe and effective training, dancers enrolled in Jazz must also be enrolled in Ballet and Stretch classes. These prerequisites help dancers build the strength, flexibility, and alignment needed for turns, jumps, travelling movement, and rhythmic footwork.

What Your Dancer Will Learn in Class

Jazz and tap dance classes focus on building strong rhythmic awareness, clear technique, and confident performance skills. Each style is taught with an emphasis on safe movement, musical understanding, and steady progression.

Rather than rushing steps, dancers are given time to understand how movement and rhythm work together and how they should feel in the body. This approach helps dancers build strong habits that support long-term growth.

With jazz and tap training, dancers develop:

  • Rhythm, timing, and musical awareness

  • Coordination and controlled footwork

  • Strength, flexibility, and dynamic movement

  • Performance quality and stage presence

  • Confidence moving to a wide range of music

Class Levels and Age Groups

Our jazz and tap programs are designed to support dancers at different stages of development, with clear age groupings and expectations that encourage healthy technique and consistent progress.

Beginner Jazz & Tap (Ages 5–6)

Beginner classes introduce dancers to basic steps, rhythms, and movement patterns in a fun and supportive environment. Dancers begin learning how to connect movement to music while improving coordination, focus, and confidence in class.

Junior Jazz & Tap (Ages 7–10)

In Junior jazz and tap classes, dancers continue building rhythm and technique while learning more detailed steps and combinations. Tap classes place greater focus on timing and sound clarity, while jazz classes introduce turns, jumps, and performance-based movement.

At this level, dancers may be introduced to adjudicated exams, which provide clear learning goals and help reinforce technique and musical understanding through structured preparation.

Intermediate (Ages 11–13) and Senior Jazz & Tap (Ages 14–18)

At the Intermediate and Senior levels, our jazz and tap classes place greater focus on clarity, strength, and consistency. In tap, dancers refine rhythm, timing, and step execution while building control and musical accuracy. Jazz classes emphasize strength, flexibility, dynamic movement, and performance quality.

Adjudicated exams are available at these levels for dancers who are ready and interested, offering structured feedback and clear benchmarks to support technical growth.
